Cartel to be placed in marquetry called Boulle with brass decoration engraved on a tortoiseshell background and ebony veneer. The upper part with a doucine highlighted by a frieze of flowers and gilded bronze scrolled consoles is topped by a circular crowned medallion decorated with a radiating motif and surrounded by palms, the whole framed by four lyres, the corners animated with smoking cassolettes. The violin body is adorned with a gilded bronze mascaron in the centre, brass foliage scrolls and animated volutes of flowers and foliage on the sides and front. The circular dial with enamelled Roman numerals for the hours on a chased and gilded bronze background and Arabic numerals for the minutes, decorated at the centre with attributes of science and trophies. It rests on four chased and gilt bronze feet simulating four sphinxes resting on a drapery-patterned moving base. Movement and numbered pendulum, leaf-suspension movement. Signed and dated 'Henri Dasson 1879' on one side. Height : 66 cm - Width : 36 cm - Depth : 21 cm Accidents and lacks in the veneer and inlay of tortoiseshell and brass, a damaged cassolette, is missing the key.
