CHRISTIAN DIOR BOUTIQUE BY JOHN GALLIANO ("FLY GIRL" COLLECT - Lot 145
CHRISTIAN DIOR BOUTIQUE BY JOHN GALLIANO ("FLY GIRL" COLLECTION FALL-WINTER 2000/01)
ICONIC "Newspaper Dress" in silk jersey with "Christian Dior Daily" gazette print featuring John Galliano, thin straps with gold metal logo on open back, asymmetrical skirt with slight ruffle (S 36) (mini threads pulled).
For the presentation of his Spring-Summer 2000 Haute Couture collection, entitled "Clochards" or "homeless-chic", John Galliano drew inspiration from the fragile lifestyle of Paris's homeless, with deconstructed, unkempt looks and overflowing linings, reusing randomly juxtaposed materials, including the newspapers used by the homeless to protect themselves from the cold, assembled haphazardly, provoking scandal and scorn from the press.
For the Prêt-à-porter Autumn-Winter 2000/01 collection, he created a new print, the "Christian Dior Daily", using press clippings from the Haute Couture collection, in particular headlines from the International Herald Tribune criticizing his previous collections.
The controversy generated by John Galliano's provocation of the luxury world made this dress a must-have of the 2000s, sought after by collectors and inseparable from Carrie Bradshaw's character in "Sex and The City", one of the most influential series of the decade.
Cinematography: worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in episode 17 "What goes around comes around" of the 3rd season of "Sex and the City" and in the 2009 film "Sex and the City 2". Also worn by Elle McPherson in 2000 and Jenna Ortega in 2025.
