FÉLIX TEYNARD, a civil engineer by training and a native of Grenoble like Champollion, is certainly among the first calotypists to have photographed Egypt (...) He travelled from Cairo to the second cataract of the Nile and took at least one hundred and sixty photographs. (...) His mastery of the photographic technique - probably the dry waxed paper method of Gustave Le Gray - is perfect. (...)
